How to Check Your MTN Data Balance in Ghana (All Methods)

Running out of data at the wrong moment is avoidable. Here is every way to check how much MTN data you have left in Ghana.

Method 1: the short code (works on any phone)

Dial *138#, choose the Balance or My Balance option, and your remaining data and its expiry date appear on screen. This works on a basic feature phone and costs nothing.

Some MTN lines also respond to *138*1# to jump straight to the balance menu.

Method 2: the MyMTN app

Install the MyMTN app, sign in with your number, and the home screen shows your data balance, expiry date, and recent bundle purchases. Useful if you want history rather than just a number.

Method 3: SMS

Send the word Balance to 138. You receive a text back with your remaining data. Handy when the USSD network is congested.

What the numbers mean

When the balance looks wrong

• Just bought a bundle and it is not showing? Wait sixty seconds and check again — the balance display refreshes on a delay.
• Data dropping fast? Background app updates and cloud photo backup are the usual culprits. Turn off automatic updates over mobile data.
• Balance shows zero right after a purchase? Check that the bundle went to the correct number; one wrong digit sends the data elsewhere.
